Members of the Michigan
Tai Chi Association and Affiliates from Toronto and Van Couver
traveled to China to further our studies in the Taoist Arts
with Taoist Master Wan Su Jian. Master Wan is the head
of the Beijing Red Cross Traditional Medical Exchange Center
/ Taoist Medical Qigong Institute in Beijing.
It is here where
we receive training in the Taoist Healing Art of Medical Qigong,
Meditation and various Martial Arts. Every morning before
breakfast we meet in the court yard for Qigong training.
After breakfast we go for treatments followed by meditation,
medical lectures and hands on training with the guidance of
Dr. Wan, Dr. Maio and other medical professionals at the institute.

This year Master
Wan wanted us to experience the birthplace of Taosim so we
traveled with him to Long Hu (Dragon and Tiger ) Mountains
and San Qing Mountains in the Jiang Xi Province
According
to the record of Taoism, in the middle of the East Han Dynasty
(25-220), Zhang Daoling, the first Tian Shi (a Taoist priest),
started to distill elixirs at this historic mountain, originally
named 'Mount of Splendid Clouds'. As the elixirs were made,
a dragon and a tiger would appear. Then the mountain's name
changed and became a birthplace of Taoism.
Master Wan wanted
us to experience this magical place, and gather energy from
nature.

The Taoists are
known for seeking out the most beautiful places.
We visited an ancient
Taoist Temple where we were invited to participate in a Taoist
Ceremony.

Of course, we always
found time everywhere we went to get a little Tai Chi and
LokHup in.
